FLB Law’s Hospitality Practice Assists Copps Island Oysters with the Launch of its Food Truck Business

Attorneys in FLB Law’s Hospitality Practice have represented longtime client Copps Island Oysters by the Bloom Family in its second transaction at Brown’s Marina in Stratford, CT – the business formation and zoning approvals for the Oyster Shack, a food truck that opened earlier this month.

In 2019, Eric Bernheim and Rick Costantini represented the Bloom family in its acquisition of Brown’s Marina from its original owners. With plans to open the Oyster Shack, FLB Law worked with Stratford’s zoning commission to obtain the necessary approvals to operate a food truck at the marina, given the town did (and does) not have zoning regulations specifically for food trucks. To facilitate the approvals, the Bloom family agreed to upgrade the marina, including adding striped parking spaces on-site along with various landscaping features.

FLB Law’s Hospitality practice also created the corporate structure to support the expansion of Copps Island Oysters, as it diversifies its business to include retail stores, restaurants and food trucks. In addition to the Oyster Shack, the company rents its catering food truck, the Shuck Truck, for private parties, festivals and farmers’ markets. The family-owned company also has ownership interests in brick-and-mortar restaurants such as Match Burger Lobster, located in Westport, Connecticut.
